Project After 10th Overview
Every student starts aspiring for a bright future
the moment he steps into tenth standard. He yearns
to most effectively spend his time, to settle down
in life and have a golden future. But he faces a
dilemma as he does not know which career path to
take, which professional field to choose. Almost all
the 12 lakh (1.2 million) students who pass out of
their tenth standard every year face this
predicament. They are clueless about professional
areas and courses other than the conventional ones
such as Intermediate, polytechnic and it is. They
would shine and chalk out a bright career path, if
only they get to choose a field that matches their
interest. But the real problem is lack of
availability of right kind of information. Project
After Tenth was launched to address this precise
problem.
In 2001, we had for the first time launched a small
booklet entitled 'Padava Taragati Taruvata…?' and
were astounded at the response the book drew in the
market. Thousands of students, their parents and
teachers whole-heartedly welcomed the book. What are
the avenues open to a student who completes his/her
tenth standard, how many kinds of courses are
available, how to study for them, where are they
available, how much does they cost and are there any
scholarships available and many such questions have
been answered in the small book.
And then, every year for nine years, we kept
updating the information, adding new matter and now
present the decennial issue. We haven't left out a
single issue, and have systematically included
virtually every course that is available to students
passing out of tenth standard. We have even included
courses available to students who have failed their
tenth standard examination. Every bit of information
that is officially available has been included in
this book.
You may be surprised to know that, during the last
nine years, we have received more than a whopping 55
thousand letters and emails from students, parents
and teachers. But we are proud to know that this
little book has helped many a budding talent to
sprout. More than a crore and 20 lakh (10.2 million)
students have read this book in the last nine years.
Lakhs of students decided on their chosen path of
career purely on the basis of this book. The
commendation letters we have received from more than
1500 educational institutions across the state,
testify this fact. As does the fact that the book
won the national Golden Publication Awards in the
years 2002, 2005 and 2007.
Four times free supply to Government institutions
We had distributed one or two copies of the book to
all Government schools in 2002 and then again in
2005. We brought the book to about 8 lakh students
every year with an annual expenditure of Rs 7 lakh.
(Rs 0.7 million) Project After Tenth has fulfilled
this enormous responsibility thrice, so far. Though
we had attempted it in 2009, we had to restrict to
only three districts due to financial constraints.
We are trying to supply books to the rest of the
districts too in 2010.
Cost-to-Cost Sale:
Project After Tenth has always been based on a
social objective. The cost of the book has always
been kept low, affordable to the common student. It
is indeed an ambitious, adventurous attempt to try
to sell 450 meticon pages of information at a mere
Rs 60. ($ 1.10) But Veluguri Foundation attempted
it. While it cost Rs 48 (about $ 1) to make the
book, we sold the book for a mere Rs 60, including
even the marketing costs. The book was sold on
cost-to-cost basis to students who directly
purchased it.
Information on Project Website too
We are taking Project After Tenth forward through
the Internet too. We are designing the Site as a
guiding beacon, as a compass for tenth standard
students and those who have completed their tenth
class education. The website will be an ocean of
information by the end of this year.
You can access all information
about the Project on this website. If you need further
information, you can call 98499 70455 or send us an
e-mail.
All of us know that our future was built upon the
foundation of tenth standard. We should all,
therefore, strive to nurture lakhs of kids like us,
and develop them into rich human resources that our
country can utilize for its golden future.
